Hello!

I am Manuela Guzmán, a Visual Artist and Illustrator born in Bogotá, Colombia.

I studied Visual Arts at the Universidad Javeriana of Bogotá, Colombia.

I became fascinated with the interaction between text and image and started working as an illustrator for independent and established editorials.

I later specialized in Children’s and Young Adult Literature, where I understood visual storytelling as a medium for self-knowledge and transformation. I love drawing and see it as an inherent aspect of my growing process. It has the potential to help us understand our emotions and familiarize ourselves with the unknown. In this way, we can change our perception of our surroundings, and develop a sense of belonging.

I work with different techniques, such as colored pencils, gouache, and graphite. I also make digital illustrations, always trying to keep the textures and character of traditional mediums. At the same time, I share how I connect with my environment through teaching and leading workshops. I use this space for others to develop their own voices and perceptions of the world around them.

I am currently studying at the Illustration MFA program of the Rhode Island School of Design.
